If you’re Canadian then you would be rolling your eyes at someone talking to you about how cold it is where they reside. The crazy storm we had two days ago, plus the fact that we haven’t seen anything warmer than -5 in the past few months, makes this post even harder to write. But alas! Warm weather will arrive…soon enough…hopefully.
Here’s to multiple hours of searching magazines and websites for upcoming spring trends, choosing 5, and then giving up half way through outfit planning and ending up with only three wearable trends. I’ve styled each of them in a casual way and a dressier way.
1. Checkmate (The Gingham shirt)
This was the easiest trend to find out about. It was literally everywhere when I looked up spring fashion trends. It’s also, in my opinion, the easiest to style. You can take any outfit and wear this on top and it instantly looks like you put a little thought into it. My gingham is from forever 21 for $23.80CAD.
2. Film Noir (Black and White)
As my favourite colour palette, I was pleasantly surprised to see that black and white is STILL going strong. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t even qualify as a “trend” anymore, its a classic. Most of the pieces that I have, I don’t remember where I got them from because I’ve had them for years. Goes to show, you don’t need to go out and buy new stuff to be trendy. (P.S. In the last photo, belly’s showing, but normally I would slip a long cardigan on top of that because that’s not really my style).
3. Here comes the Sun (Yellow hues)
I have to be honest, when kept seeing this colour pop up I thought to myself “Yellow is not my thing…next option please”. And as I was looking through my closet I had not only one yellow dress, but two! Both the exact same colour and from H&M (as is pictured), the only difference is that one is sleeveless and one has short sleeves. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this one.
